You may not be aware but according to the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cda-adc.ca\/en\/oral_health\/faqs\/gum_diseases_faqs.asp#:~:text=Seven%20out%20of%2010%20Canadians,you%20have%20a%20real%20problem.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canadian Dental Association<\/a><\/em>, seven out of ten Canadians will develop some form of gum disease in their lifetimes. 70% will have this issue, but only if they are lax on their daily dental duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowledge is power and this is no different. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawadentistryonkent.com\/periodontal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gum disease<\/a> is caused by bacteria found in plaque, the sticky colorless film that forms on your teeth. If this plaque isn\u2019t removed by proper oral hygiene habits, plaque will build up and the bacteria will infect every aspect of your mouth. There are three stages of gum disease and each affect your mouth differently: gingivitis, periodontitis and advanced periodontitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gingivitis.<\/strong> This is the inflammation of your gums and teeth that\u2019s caused by plaque buildup at your gum line. This is the only stage of gum disease that can be reversed, since the bone and connective tissue are not yet affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Periodontitis.<\/strong> Once periodontitis occurs, the supporting bone and tissues structures are irreversibly damaged.
